MEMS behavioral simulation: a potential use for Physics of Failure (PoF) modeling

چکیده
The reliability of MEMS based systems might be increased by the use of a Physics of Failure (PoF) methodology. This methodology necessitates the development of corresponding models that can be used for reliability evaluation. The model development is based on a good knowledge of effects of environmental influences on the MEMS. For the reliability evaluation of MEMS based systems the used models should be behavioral models. In system simulation behavioral models have a good ratio between simulation time and accuracy. This paper addresses in a first part the PoF methodology and in a second part a case study. The RF switch case study combines the use of environmental tests (temperature variations and irradiation) and modeling tools.

متن کاملNovel 3D modeling methods for virtual fabrication and EDA compatible design of MEMS via parametric libraries
This paper provides a brief summary of the state-of-the-art of MEMS-specific modeling techniques and describes the validation of new models for a parametric component library. Two recently developed 3D modeling tools are described in more detail. The first one captures a methodology for designing MEMS devices and simulating them together with integrated electronics within a standard electronic ...
متن کاملThermal Fatigue Life Estimation and Fracture Mechanics Studies of Multilayered MEMS Structures Using a Sub-Domain Approach
This paper is concerned with the application of a Physics of Failure (PoF) methodology to assessing the reliability of Micro-Electro-Mechanical-System (MEMS) switches. Numerical simulations, based on the finite element method (FEM) using a sub-domain approach, were performed to examine the damage onset (e.g. yielding) due to temperature variations and to simulated the crack propagation differen...

This thesis extends and updates the N__qodal Design of Actuators and Sensors (NODAS) library previously developed at Carnegie Mellon University. NODAS is a library of atomic element lumped parameter behavioral models written in Verilog-A, an analog hardware description language (AHDL). It is used for the simulation of MEMS devices in a SPICE-like circuit simulator. Physics modeling, accuracy ve...
متن کاملP-53: The Unexpected Occurrence of SpontaneousPregnancy during Hormone ReplacementTherapy for Premature Ovarian Failure
Background: Premature ovarian failure (POF) is defined by the association of amenorrhea, hypoestrogenism and elevated (menopausal) levels of serum gonadotropins before age of 40 years-old. This condition affects approximately %1 of women under 40 years of age. Physiologic replacement of ovarian steroid hormones seems rational until the age of normal menopause. Temporary return of ovarian functi...
